Network Monitoring Tool
Scenario is this, randomly during the day our network will die and pop up again within a minute or so. Mostly it's been going unnoticed, but now and again someone will say that their Outlook is offline or browsing has stopped working. Is there a tool available that can monitor my connection and log when it's not available so I can give concrete evidence to the IT dept upstairs? Right now I'm being told there isn't a problem so want to start watching when and how often it's dropping.

Write a batch to ping in a loop and log when it times out?

I use that sometimes to monitor connectivity over extended periods of time to our remote sites.

I like the ping loop idea. I suggest doing a larger packet size to get a good test. (something like "-l 1500")
If you have full access to the devices out there, you can find a free network monitor tool. I use Observium and like it very well. Though you'd have to change the default 5 minute polling interval to deal with your situation.
