Coming over the pond in June - Looking for some ideas

Coming over the pond in June with my 3 good friends to celebrate our 50th Birthdays this year. We've got 3 days in New York followed by 5 days in Vegas. We're coming over on June 13th and the World Cup starts at the same time, so we're panning to catch a few games in bars whilst over there.

So far all we have planned is a baseball match, (New York Mets), on June 13th, a game at the Football Factory on the evening of June 14th, and I desperately want to visit the Hoover Dam whilst in Vegas.

What else should we be doing/visitng?

Grand Canyon is a MUST alongside the Hoover Dam. If you can take one of the helicopter trips into the floor, or the plane ride out. It really is stunning. Of course in Vegas, whatever you want to do, you probably can, and remember 'RIIIIIIIDE THE DEUUUCE" (this will make more sense once you've been....)

There is loads to do in Vegas and 5 days will scratch the surface.... Bellagio Fountains, Trip to the top of the Paris Tower, Atomic Museum, Shoot a machine gun, go downtown, rollercoaster on top of the Stratosphere, gamble, see one of the Cirque du Soleil shows which are ridiculously good, eat, drink and party! Visit the Star Trek ride in the basement of the Hilton (if still there) car museums, Friday thread type shows....

My advice would be decide before you go, as there is too much choice when you get there :-) go prepped and stick to it.

Time is too short, but Niagara falls is an awesome experience. 6hrs drive from NYC though.
Empire state building and the statue while in NYC. Don't go on weekends, you will wait for hours in line.
Intrepid museum if you like airplanes and ships. They have an awesome G-force flight simulator if you're into that.

Vegas is awesome! I was just there last October for the Motley Crue concert at the Hard Rock. That was good times!

Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam are each very good suggestions. There is nothing remotely similar to the Grand Canyon in Europe so it would be a shame for you to miss it.

Niagara Falls is spectacular but considering your limited time, I do not think it is worth the drive from NYC. There are plenty of things in NYC you will find equally thrilling but for different reasons.

Of course any trip should include Michigan but it sounds like the best you will be able to do is look down on the Great Lakes as you fly by.

Just spend two days in NYC, and meet me and Pinnacle at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm sure he would drive down, and the other one from Columbus would drive up?????

Sorry, too cheap to resist. Actually, prostitution is legal in Nevada except for the counties occupied by Reno and Las Vegas, and I never saw that enforced. A lot of the really popular shows have long waits for tickets, so if you don't book early, you may be out of luck. But aside from the sightseeing stuff, which is really fun, Vegas offers a ton of cheap entertainment, and even the second tier shows can be excellent. Vegas also offers a lot of great food for next to nothing, and generally, as long as you are gambling at a casino, drinks are free. So, in a pinch, you can buy a cup of quarters, and play the cheap slots or video poker and drink for next to nothing.

My last trip to Vegas, I did some of the touristy stuff, and after 3 days of playing the cheapskate games, was only down $20. My sister-in-law won $10,000 on one hand of Caribbean Poker, while her husband dropped about $18 grand; and no, she didn't share. But you can gamble some and not lose a fortune. Still, I liked the sightseeing best, except for Jenny. But it's worth emphasizing a lot of this stuff is booked way in advanced. Some of the mule rides along the Grand Canyon can be booked something like 11 months in advance.

I'll try and find the website I used to pre-book trips when we went to Vegas, as for the shows, you can get day tickets from the booths all down the strip, there can be a queue for some of them, so get to them early... or book direct in advance :-) Hmmmm I'm getting the Vegas bug again....
