    Craps

Went to Vegas not knowing or understanding the game. Watched a few tables over the first 2 days trying to figure it out, then found a table with a croupier who was willing to talk me through the rules as I played, starting with really simple stuff and progressing. I'm not an expert by any means, but I fell in love with the game as a very sociable way of having a little gamble. When you know the rules and have good table etiquette you get a lot more chat from other players and the croupiers too. An excellent way of spending an evening in Vegas .

Anyone else here play the game?

Nope. I bellied up to the roulette table and won pretty big with a system that was long and drawn out. Etiquette is big in Vegas. Almost every casino has a "learning" table but if you are going to play with the big dogs, you better know what you are doing.

In the most part dealers are pretty patient and the better they are, the more they get tipped. But I have to say, dealing with drunks all day...would drive up the wall.

I learned the game, pretty much the same way as you. I lurked around a few table in Reno and took it all in before i got the courage to join a table with a friendly dealer. OMG what a great game. Everybody is all on the same side and when you roll a winner, they cheer like you hit a home run! It took me a couple hundred $$ to learn how to use the system and play the odds, but once that was on place, it was fun fun money.

Craps is about all I will play these days. My wife too. I hate electronic machines. Most card tables you are playing against each other (even in blackjack where you can "steal" someone else's card) which fosters a negative attitude. Routlette is just boring to me with very few play options. Craps is where it's at for a fun game where the players are often high energy and having a good time. It's a game you can play were you can know almost NONE of the rules and you will still do well (bet the pass line with odds and nothing else if that's all you know). As you learn and, as you guys already pointed out, people are always willing to fill you in on what the various bets are. I was able to convince my wife to play on our honeymoon. The cruise ship had a casino and they offered a "learn to play" class where if you attended you got a free $5 chip to play later. So with zero potential cost to learn she was in. Now she's hooked. It take a while to pick up the lingo (I still pick up more each time I play, but if you don't know just ask. I have yet to see anyone berated at a craps table like you would be at blackjack or poker.

We have also made a LOT more money playing craps than any other game.

Same here. When you get someone who is simply unable to roll a 7 then you have to ride the wave with them. On our last night we played in a casino that had the fire bet as an option and over the evening 4 numbers came in when I had a single dollar chip on the fire button so I won $25, (as another player pointed out, the fire bet is a pretty stupid bet until it comes in). It never went higher than 4 numbers though. Later in the evening on another table reports were going around that they were up to 5 numbers with the 6 still open, so we stopped playing and headed over to watch. One guy had a dollar on the fire bet and another guy had $5 on it. The shooter rolled the six and the whole place was going wild, one more 6 and both guys would get 1000 x their bet. A few rolls later and he rolled the 6!

Earlier that evening a fellow player told me that he'd only seen that happen 3 times in his life.
