We went to DC over the weekend, on the return trip we hit an exit for supper and ended up trying 5 guys again. I still stand by my original evaluation, they're just burgers that are a tad on the expensive side with nothing special about them.

Sounds tasty, but they aren't barbecued; they are grilled. Entirely different cooking methods. A real BBQ'd burger would probably be inedible. I'll admit that any meat cooked over charcoal is likely to be better than the equivalent cooked in a pan or whatever, but real BBQ is another animal altogether.

Noo! Damn it's good to see you're alive! For what it is worth, I think a perfect burger has to include a patty grilled over charcoal, mustard on the bottom of the bun next to the meat, a slice of cheddar on top, topped with lettuce and sliced tomato, garnished with a little mayo. Pickles are optional, and if you include them, they must be Claussen and they go on top of the tomatos. Bacon on the burger is OK, but I like to keep it simple. So, no avocado. Also the buns should always be white bread and they must be either grilled a bit in the fat from the burger patties or in butter.

OK, we each have our tastes, but at least nobody has expressed a preference for a veggie burger or Tofutti.
