I was doing some banking today and stumbled into a conversation with the teller about the security features in the new $100 bills. She was talking about how wonderful they are and this is a necessary step in order to curb counterfeiting. I told her I believe polymer currency is a far better choice. Dozens of countries are already using polymer for at least part of their currency but America continues to invest in improving their "paper" technology.
She looked at me like I was on drugs. I know being a teller in a small branch in a suburb her exposure to foreign currency is probably limited but certainly she must be familiar with Canadian currency (they completed their transition to polymer last year).
Anyway, I see the UK is now making plans to transition to polymer. Maybe someday we will get on the bandwagon too.
