Boeing Gets $9M More to Develop Phantom Swift X-Plane

Interesting read here from Defensetech.org Frankly, this thing looks like a massive kludge. Dedicated lifting fans plus wing mounted thrusters for forward propulsion? Wouldn't it be easier to stick a couple of turbofans on the Osprey and call it good? But, Hell fahr, that picture sure looks mighty damn purty.

Weird. In the grand scheme of things, $9 million is nothing. What is that really going to get them?

Yeah, is that 9 mil or 9 bil?

    Maybe that article is wrong.

They probably spend 9 mil researching a name for this project

I expect $9 mil is right, since a lot of DARPA proof of concept projects actually are done on pretty tight budgets. It isn't until the designs get into production that the taxpayers are introduced to The Great American Challenge.

The basic design just struck me as inefficient in terms of space utilization and redundant hardware.
