Fun at the Amish consignment auction

I have mentioned here before that twice a year my Dad and I go to a large Amish consignment auction in Northern Indiana. To call it large does not do it justice. At any given moment, 20 auctioneers are selling stuff simultaneously. Thousands of people attend. If you are patient, you can get good deals.

In addition to some not noteworthy items, we got this scroll saw. I already had a low end bench top model but have been keeping my eyes open for something better. It rained overnight so this one developed a little rust on the work surface. I will clean that up today. Otherwise, it is in really good condition. I paid $40. I do not see anything comparable to this on Sears' website right now but I think it is fair to say I got a good deal.

Yessir, I'd call that a deal! Personally, I'm not much of a wood worker, but my wife does some. Metal and I get along much better, though it's been years since I've owned any machine tools or welding gear. Sold it all when we moved to Virginia, and haven't had any real need to replace it.
Yes, Mr. Death... I'll play you a game! But not CHESS !!! BAH... FOOEY! My game is...

I cleaned it up tonight so now there is no rust on the work surface. I had not turned it on yet just in case some water from the rain got in. I turned it on and wow, this thing runs quiet. I can' think of any other tool I have that runs this quiet. Very nice.

I found the owner's manual online. The date in the manual is October 1996. That's not bad at all. My drill press is from 1947. My dad bought it when I was a kid. He was (is?) a machinist. He did a complete restoration on it. It's as nice today as the day it came off the assembly line.

Hmm . . . good question. I don't know yet. I still can't get over how quiet it runs.

Very cool, and that is quite the deal! I have never really went to auctions, although I think I'd enjoy them.

If it were me I can tell you what I would make..........a trip to the ER to have a finger sewed back on!
