As long as you are mentioning greats from the '68 Series, be sure to remember Mickey Lolich. He won three games for the Tigers in that World Series.

There are three other pitchers who have gone 3-0 with three complete games in the World Series, namely the Pirates' Babe Adams in 1909 (1.33 ERA), the Athletics’ Jack Coombs in 1910 (3.33 ERA) and the Tigers’ Mickey Lolich in 1968 (1.67 ERA).

NICE I actually played from 7th. grade until the end of 11th. I was always on defense. If an offensive guy got dirty with you, you could always retaliate by drilling them with the puck. Very little tolerance for fighting in high school. If you got absolutely destroyed on the boards, the refs would allow you some measure of retaliation during the game.

I somewhat recently played in a 40 and over no-check league. I last played last year. I'm 55 now. I played in that league almost every year. At 55, I have to be able to go to work the next day. But the ability to not be able to hit the guy right in front of you, depresses me to no end. I figure I've got two or three more years, then I'll hang them up.

I love the violence in hockey. I'd love to attend a game.

We have some friends from Nepal. The first year they lived here, our daughters' choir was invited to sing the national anthem at a local minor league hockey game. The Dad attended the game with me. His English was terrible at the time but I tried to explain hockey was sort of like soccer but on ice. I did not try to prepare him for the fights. I was not sure how to explain that in broken English anyway.

When the first fight occurred, I looked over to see what his reaction would be. Shocked? No. Offended? No. He loved it. No doubt this game ended up in letters back to family and friends in Nepal. Now, people had a new way to think of America. America, the country with streets paved of gold and crazy men who fight each other on ice.

That WAS a great series. I'm not much into baseball, but B&C is and I admit, I don't mind watching the local team playing in either the playoffs or the series.

Our local PAL (Police Activities League) board was able to get the World Series Trophy Tour to come through our town. I have a picture of my kids with the 3 trophies. Pretty cool thing.
When you're left out of the club, you know it. When you're in the club, you don't see what the problem is.

    I am Green-Eyed.
