Streaming services and what are you using.

What do you guys use to stream and what makes it good?

    I will start.

    I use Netflix:

The good - Its cheap. 8 bucks a month for more programming than one can possibly watch. They have some awesome original programming as well. You can share an account.

The bad - They don't keep their apps up to date and quite frankly, the website is ugly.

The ugly - As good as the quantity of their content is, the quality is not so great. Few contracts with even fewer studios mean you won't be seeing very many new releases.

    Amazon Prime:

The good - In addition to tons of programming like Netflix, you also get deals on shipping when buying from their website.

The bad - Their cataloging system. If you are looking for something random like TV programs, it will tell you that you have 300 choices, when in reality, each season of a program is one of the 300.

The ugly - It buffers...a lot. The interface for our Roku sucks.

The Extra - you can rent new release movies and not leave the couch. It is like having a Redbox in your living room.

So what do you guys use?

I just cut the cord as of midnite tonight. Will let you guys know, as I intend to explore my options pretty hard. Until "ala carte" content comes along for TV programming comes along, there are going to be many many people abandoning the cable and satellite providers.

I talked to the person assigned to help terminate our account at DirecTV, and she said about 90% of the calls coming across her desk are from people looking for Ala Carte TV. When all these clowns realize that their "our way or the highway" paradigm is costing them too many customers, maybe they will be willing to change.
I intend to slowly expand, starting with Netflix. We shall see. I am trully addicted to HD content, and my decisions will likely be a result of how much of that is available from any Internet based services.

We have used Netflix in the past but switched to Amazon Prime about five years ago.

Amazon offers a lot of bang for the buck at $100 per year. If you have an .edu e-mail address, you can get it for 50% off for four years per .edu e-mail address that you have. Plus, we get free 2 day shipping on most of the stuff Amazon sells. We buy tons of stuff on Amazon so this means a lot to us.

We rarely have a problem with the program buffering but it has happened before.

Netflix. "meh" selection, but it's $8 so meh.. Good for some cartoons, good for some series that wife and I started watching.
I have Amazon prime but I wasn't impressed, all the good stuff is extra.
No quality issues with either, in fact I can say that Netflix has better picture than Uverse.

    netflix and prime.
pretty happy with that combo. We watch more of netflix's original programming (house of cards, orange is the new black etc) lately. With prime we see if they have what we can't find on netflix plus it's nice to be able to rent / buy a movie if we want.

    Netflix

Also, we find ourselves using the OnDemand function of our cable far more than the actual channels. Wish we could find an online service with as many options that we get there.

I find stuff via torrent as well occasionally. I wish there was an easier way to get the stuff to the tv though. We have to transfer the stuff to the surface or laptop and then hook up via hdmi. It would be nice if I could stream local network content via the roku.

I keep hearing that you can and I have found the local stations on Roku but I will be damned if I can get them to work. The porn on roku is subpar as well :P

Pretty much exactly what we are doing.

Have you watched Lilyhammer? Good show as well, but turn the subtitles on.
