This might be a good winter for her to be in Chicago. So far, our weather has been unseasonably warm. Last year we had 31 inches of snow in November. This year we had 4 inches. No snow so far in December.

This winter, we have been more likely to have days in the 60's and 70's than even the 40's. A couple of days of ice with a dusting of snow has been as bad as it has gotten. Hope it is mild when she graduates in 8 weeks!

Elder Child is one of 14 kids in her basic class who wish to become IT specialists. 10 of them are women. So, if everyone makes it through basic, they will all go to Pensacola for 15 weeks of advanced training. Which I think is pretty cool.

I envy you. February on the High Plains isn't usually too pleasant. I have to laugh though, because it has been colder here than in Chicago over the last couple of weeks and (of course) mostly windier. In fact, most of this week at say, 7:00 am it has been like 21-25 here compared to 46 or so in Chicago.

I've mentioned this elsewhere on the forum, but EC just completed firearms training. She qualified for a Pistol Marksmanship ribbon, and has also qualified with the Mossberg 500 12 gauge shotgun. The Navy does not award Marksmanship ribbons for the shotgun.

    Damn! I'm proud of her!

    Way to go dad!
When you're left out of the club, you know it. When you're in the club, you don't see what the problem is.

    I am Green-Eyed.
