You're right, that's the nicest huge brick wall just off a main road I've ever seen .

It's a very traditional way of building houses over here. Mostly pre war estates are like this. I think this area was built up in the 1930's as the London Underground train system reached out here.

That explains it. Hey, if you come to Anytown PA, all the small towns look very similar.
