IYO what is the appropriate amount to gift to a child of a good friend?

    Is $50 a fair amount?

My kids were lucky to get $20. $50 would be super.

Having said that, my brother gave $500 to my daughter but zero to my son for graduating high school. Never could figure that one out.

OK, that's pretty weird. Did you ever consider tying him to a chair and having a discussion?

I just think he has a thing for teenage girls. He even goes to the mall to check out chicks...and he's 4 years older than I am. I hate going to the dam mall!

I gave $20 to a friends kid when she graduated. I gave $100 to my nephew when he graduated college.

It just depends on how close you are to the kid in question. $50 is a great gift.
When you're left out of the club, you know it. When you're in the club, you don't see what the problem is.

Girlfriend's daughter is graduating this year. Her family is pretty much all working class folks barely getting by paycheck to paycheck. She got $250 from one of her grandparents, but mostly 25-50 gifts from the other relatives so far. I would think $50 for a family friend is more than enough.

    We gave $50 to a relative and $30 or $40 to a friend (I can't remember which).
