    Sub Optimal Week

Not a good week. 3 days ago one of our dogs was poisoned. We really don't know what happened, but with all the recent rain, it's very likely he might have eaten one or more Great Plains Toads. They are toxic. And the funny thing about dogs is that so many foods a human can digest are lethal to canines. Onions, garlic, chocolate. We just don't know what happened.

Anyway, my wife and I both thought the dog was dying, but she took him to the vet, they gave him an IV and once he was a little re-hydrated, he started showing signs of recovery. The vet wanted to keep him for several days more and charge us like a grand for his treatment, but we took him home, and I've spent the last three days getting up every two hours, giving him Pedialyte, and taking him outside. The dog has made a full recovery, but I'm pretty fried. So, if I've posted anything more deranged than usual in the last day or two, I hope y'all will understand.

That's a major bummer. Our dogs are considered part of the family. Glad he made a full recovery.

Any chance he was bitten by a rattlesnake? We lost three of our dogs to those bastards over a couple of years.

No snake bites, we still have no idea what happened to him.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I'm glad he's better.

In an update, Stupid Doggy strikes again. This time he managed to chew up a plastic bottle of mineral oil, and drank most of it. I cleaned up more dog poo than I thought one canine could produce. Plus, after his colon cleanse, he still dripped mineral oil for two days. Well, there goes another sofa. Better than eating another damn toad, I guess.

Yep, dogs are stupid and eat anything. Why I don't have a dog, and never will. That said when I was young my mom and pop had a herd of daschunds, like 5 of them, so that alone should explain my reticence to purchase a puppy.

Any who, sorry to hear man. My favorite of the daschunds was named boo boo and he was "special" and would eat stuff and get sick for days all the time. Ya feel so bad for them, like they were your child.

I guess in that regard I'm lucky my dog doesn't eat just anything. My poor doggie has seizures though. A whole different kind of fur family h3ll.

Well, the only thing really life-threatening to the dog about drinking the mineral oil was my reaction. Oddly, for a nurse who has worked in a nursing home, my wife can't handle either vomit or feces without tossing her cookies. I didn't like cleaning up after the mutt, but if I hadn't, I'd have ended up dealing with two messes. Sometimes you just gotta cut your losses.

I've had a friend or two who have had dogs that experienced seizures, and I know that really stinks.

For no particular reason, I feel I should mention that our idiot Boxer (consumer of toads and mineral oil) is named Jax. Now before JaxSon gets on an ego rush, Jax was named by YC in honor of Jackson Teller from Sons of Anarchy.
