    Price of gas

A couple months ago, I paid $1.99 a gallon for gas. A day later, the price went up a bit and I thought I would never see gas below $2 a gallon again. Today, I paid $1.81 a gallon at Costco. The non-member gas stations are only 5-10 cents more per gallon so they are all really cheap too. Who would have thought?

With electricity up to some $0.25/kWh the low price for gas and oil is more than welcome for the winter. I know people who were nearly freezing and still paying $1000 a month for oil.

according the economics professors that post here, when gas is cheap, it is because the economy sucks. Well, it can keep sucking. $2.15 in MN and that is with all the new taxes

I think some of the price drop has to do with oil industry attempting to squash the natural gas development particularly (and alternative energy in general.) If we can get gas for under $2/gallon then we're all happy and not bitching about and supporting the need for new fuel sources. Also it always seems to drop in late fall after the vacation season has wound down (Isn't it convenient that no matter what is going on in the world, gas always goes up from mid june until late september to line up with people taking their vacations)

    Damn

Around these parts when gas gets cheap, they just assume they can add more tax to it.

    ^---THAT.
With electricity at $0.2/kWh and gas at $2/gal, electric cars cost more to operate.
Even a heat pump is barely worth it with $2/gal oil, and only at warm-ish temperatures.

Also the environuts who keep pushing for moving away from gas towards electric cars fail to realize that 70% of US electricity comes from burning fossil fuels (mainly coal and gas) and 6% of the electricity generated is lost in transmission/distribution. Not significantly reducing pollution, just moving the place where it is generated.

I keep reading that it's dropping, but all the gas stations here have been stuck at about $2.29 a gallon for a few months.....it literally hasn't budged a cent.
