"But I got it because I'm an iSheep who needs to have all my stuff have an Apple logo on it."
We went from 1.67 yesterday morning to 1.99 today. Guess the gas station owners need to buy presents for their families too.
Grocery rewards are the best. I got a little over 27 gallons today for free, and still have about $6.00 off per gallon left on my card, which should be about two more completely free fillups and then a half price fillup. Had the good fortune of having to buy about $1500 in gift cards for end of year work stuff, and giant eagle gives fuel rewards for buying gift cards from them. After seeing how quickly that piles up points, I've thought about buying visa cards from giant eagle, then using the visa card over the next month or two to buy my groceries from giant eagle. By my math, it would save me $40 for every $200 that I buy.

28+ gallons? Was that for 2 vehicles I assume?

How much do you spend on grocery shopping???
We get 1 point/dollar spent around here, 100 points would save $0.1/gal so merely $1.3 in gas (13 gal) for $100 spent.
The gas/grocery programs might work at some stores but the only chain that does it around here is expensive. The gas reward does not make up for the extra you have to spend on their groceries. I like the idea of the gift cards to get points but they do not do that here. The more expensive chain did have a program a few years ago where if you bought gift cards (for anything, the store, Amazon, Home Depot, restaurants, etc.) they would give you points good towards certain items. We buy stuff on Amazon constantly and I often give Amazon gift cards as gifts. During that program, all the Amazon cards I bought turned into free a free turkey, ham, and I forget what else.
the giant eagle deal is .10 off a gallon for every $50 spend
they run specials where they double points on gift cards and visa prepaids. So if you're going to buy say a new laptop at best buy, you go and get $500 of gift cards at Giant eagle on which you $2.00 off each gallon of gas up to 30 gallons. So in this scenario you get your laptop for what you were going to spend anyway and get 30 gallons of gas for $4.50.
I typically just use the southwest card for points for flights, but I know people who really work the gas rewards.
My grocery store offers a points system that either gets me a discount on groceries or gas. For stuff like Holiday food purchases, we might use point for groceries, but I usually use the discount for gas. I do most of the shopping, and I prefer to hit the store about every other day. I like to plan a menu and buy fresh for it. So, it's a better deal to save on gas.
We have a Super WalMart, but I don't usually buy groceries there. But for beer and wine, paper products, and pet food (3 dogs, 4 cats) I can save a bunch of dough.
