    TechNet Alternative

Way back, I had a Microsoft Action Pack subscription. More recently, I had a TechNet subscription. Both gave me more than enough software to keep me happy at home. Unfortunately, the TechNet no longer exists and the Action Pack has become too pricy over the years. Are you aware of any alternatives?

I am not interested in 90 day trials and I want to remain legal.

I currently have numerous computers running Windows 7 with Office 2010 and one with Windows 10 and Office 2010. I am in no hurry to do so but eventually I will want to upgrade to newer software. I know I can upgrade to Windows 10 right now but I assume Microsoft will eventually stop doing that. Plus, I hate the bother of installing Windows 7 just to upgrade to 10. I would rather simply do a clean install of 10.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I am probably in the same boat as you.

Two desktops for me, a server for me, a laptop for the family, and two more desktops (one for each daughter). Total = 6 computers. I used to have an additional desktop for me but I got rid of one.

I'd be interested too.....I always said I'd get the action pack or technet, but I never did.

I have a VS ultimate + MSDN subscription paid by the company. Some levels aren't cheap at all and have a huge first-time cost (think 10k+) but there may be other levels.

The one thing I miss after retiring, my MSDN subscription...

Frankly it would be cheaper to just upgrade to Win 10 on the desktops and laptops and what do you use the server for?

I don't use the server much anymore. I used to have a rack full of equipment at home that I used for self development. Over the years, my career has changed and I no longer get my hands dirty. I have slowly got rid of that stuff. The server I still have is the end of that stuff.

Yes, I could switch everyone over to Windows 10. Right now, I like Windows 7 better but I am getting used to 10. Either way, it would be nice to be able to do a ground up build of 10 instead of having to install 7 and then upgrade to 10. I doubt if the free upgrade path will last forever but who knows? Maybe Microsoft is really serious about getting people off old operating systems.
