In the past month or so, I have been hearing about area roofs collapsing due to the excessive weight of snow. Grand Rapids has now received about 105" of snow this year with higher numbers as one gets closer to the lakeshore (like where I live). Most years we have a brief period of above freezing weather that melts a lot of snow. This year, it has been below freezing since Thanksgiving. That, combined with extra snow has spelled trouble. Nearly all of the collapses I have heard about were buildings with large, flat roofs. Here is a house a mile or less from mine that was completely destroyed by the weight of the snow.
