    Emergency Alert on my phone

So, even though I have a 907 area code, yesterday my iPhone went nuts with an Emergency Alert for a tornado warning. It is not stored in my received text. I have NO idea how they did that! It made horrible loud noises to get my attention, and put that warning on my screen. However, when I unlocked my phone, it disappeared.

Anyone have any experience with this?

A weather app or widget you have installed/configured perhaps that has alerts enabled?

Cell broadcasts. In android you can disable them except for the presidential ones I believe...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I also get Amber Alerts via that also...actually kinda annoying.

On iPhone it's just a couple of toggles. One for AMBER Alerts and one for Emergency Alerts. The information is shown in the Notification Center and the settings are in the Notification Center settings all the way at the bottom.

I didn't have this on my iPhone 4 but I do on my 5s. I was stunned when I first saw this about a year ago when my friend got a notification on his iPhone 5 and my iPhone 4 didn't get anything. Also someone I know didn't have it on his Galaxy S2. So not sure which phones have it and which ones don't. Seems to be mostly on newer phones. Also it seems to be slightly different depending on where you are. For example, I don't get tornado warnings.

It came from a Weather Channel app on my iPhone 4S. Now that I know what it is, I won't worry about it any more. Thanks guys.

Just curious but does the 4S have the AMBER and Emergency alerts toggles? Just wondering if that model has that feature or not.

My carrier is Verizon, and I'm blessed with any alerts within around 500 miles or so of my physical location. It's really annoying, but I view it as a CYA thing. If Verizon didn't push out all those useless alerts, they would be guaranteed to be sued by some jerk who had his car stolen by an escaped con just because he left his keys in the car three nights running.
