Yamaha Reciever...will i be let down with only 110-120 vs 140-155?

Overall, the features I will need exist on both units...but i'm curious if I'll be disapointed in the 1030 with only 110 watts. Going from a 10 year old Yamaha with 135 watts, forget the model right now, but it cranks my elderly infinity Intlude 60's...Note that they both have built in 500 watt 12" subs. So all the power is going into the midrange and highs...think the speakers are rated for 175 RMS, so either reciever should do just fine.

Any thoughts? also not buying at crutchfield, found this site has them both for much cheaper, so i just gotta find out of this place is reputable and i'll get it there:

I would think that you'd be happy with ONLY 110 watts but that's just my opinion. If this is just for a house stereo and not some bar or nightclub. I have an old Kenwood receiver (KR-V7050, 100 watts RMS per channel) pushing four old Kenwood speakers (KL-888S, 250 watts) and I hardly ever turn it up pass halfway at the house. And I DO like it loud!

I am living fine with 100 watts on a Pioneer receiver these days. I had to sell my really good Technics speakers when I moved, but found some nice Yamaha speakers in a pawn shop when I got here. All in all, what with everything being in a dfifferent room 4500 miles away, I am happy with the sound. When the wife isn't home, I like to crank up the audio around here.

You're going to have to explain yourself on that. Are you saying that a rating of 8 watts versus 100 watts means nothing?

This example is is a little extreme but it's not extreme to say that a cheap product rated at 100 watts (which in the fine print says peak power operating in bridge mono mode) would be outperformed by a solidly built 25 watt amp from a reputable company.
You see this all the time in the Pro Audio market with amps for mobile DJing. for example....here's this 2000 watt amplifier by pyle.

you know what it actually pushes in stereo with 8ohm speakers? about 170 Watts per channel....which is OK for the price and it actually sounds pretty decent...but it's just an example of how wattage is bullshit.

It means nothing. At what THD? On what speakers?
An amp rated 8W RMS with 0.01%THD will sound cleaner (and probably much louder) outputting those 8W than an amp rated 100W PMPO (typical $10 PC speaker) cranked at maximum...
It only matters when you compare apples to apples.

That wattage comparison is a true apples/oranges issue when you're comparing different brands. But within the same brand, and same lineup, wattage differences are accurate enough to actually mean something. That said, I also appreciate higher wattage systems for lower volume dynamics more than just being able to shift cinderblock's, so for me there is a true benefit of having more power. That said, I don’t want to drop more money if I’m not going to notice the difference. Problem is you can’t find a store in town anymore that demo’s high end receivers…of course they all lost business to internet sales…but I do miss being able to compare side by side without taking home two units…

The best way I can explain it is it would be like if every company that made cars had their own idea as to how far one mile is. If Ford said 6000 Feet and GM said 5500 Feet the cars would have completely different readings on the speedos even when traveling at the same speed. With some cheapo computer speakers claiming 320 Watts and a Mono Block Tube Amp Claiming 2 or 3 watts there is no real way to compare accurately.

Other than power are there any other features that you need or want in the higher end model ?

Or save the money and buy better speakers.
